Relining usually gets sold on the technology. The reason it makes sense out here is far more ordinary: distance.
On a suburban block a sewer run is short, so digging it up is a hole and a weekend. On a property where the house sits well back from the road, that same run is tens of metres, and excavating it is a trench across the place. It goes through established garden, a gravel drive, or paddock you would very much rather not open up with weather coming. The cost follows the length, and so does the disruption.
Relining does not care about the length in the same way. It works through an access point that is already there, so nothing above the pipe is touched regardless of how far the line runs. That is why the comparison between a reline and an excavation looks so different here to how it looks a few suburbs closer to the city.
On unsewered properties there is a second reason. The run from the house to the tank carries untreated waste. A crack or an open joint in that line is not simply a flow problem, it is waste entering the ground, and nothing about it is visible from the surface.
